Fix for Multiplayer console appearing on launch

Recommended Posts

Seen a few threads recently on the below issue, and the team end up repeating themselves time and time again (as do the regulars on here)

So I am going to put it in one place and hope that it helps others

Steps to fix

1: On your keyboard press the Windows Key and R, a run dialog will appear

2: In the run dialog type %appdata% and navigate up one folder so you arrive at the Appdata folder (You shouldnt be in the Roaming folder at this point)

3: Navigate to Local > CallOfDuty4MW > Players > Profiles > <your profile name> and find your config_mp.cfg

4: Double click the config_mp.cfg and open it inside a text editor (Notepad++ is one I will recommend as its prettier than standard Notepad :3)

5: Do a search for "set dedicated". Remove the line.

6: Control S will save the config and now you can start the game normally!

Hopefully it helps as a reference :D

if you have that line it will put it into a server mode

that line should be removed so it does not go into server move..

he's showing people what is causing the client to start as a dedicated server, and how to fix it. quite many have posted threads with that issue recently.

I understood what he meant

but his lines

5: Do a search for "set dedicated" and when it is found make sure the line says 'set dedicated "2"'

6: Control S will save the config and now you can start the game normally!

will not stop it from from starting a dedicated server.

Its misleading, he should say if its there to remove it.
