Asset extractor features now available.

This day has come! :)

There was small discussion before and here we are!

Now you can decompile few types of assets used in various mods and insert it in your own mods as source files.

Requirements: cod4x18_dedrun build >= 1972

How to (En): Launch server with mod, with developer "2" mode. Once map loading finished, use "extract " console command to extract assets. It will be saved under "fs_homepath" in "extracted" directory. Map fastfiles are ignored for now.

How to (Ru): Запустить сервер с модом, в режиме developer "2". Как только карта закончит загружаться, используйте консольную команду "extract <название_ff> <тип_ассета>" для извлечения ассетов. Они будут сохранены в директории "extracted", в папке, которая указана в переменной "fs_homepath". Фастфайлы карт пока игнорируются.

Here few screenshots of recompiled sources of promodlive220, EU edition.

If you experiencing some bugs during extracting and\or compiling of extracted assets (without any changes made) feel free to post your issues here. Don't forget to describe your problem and attach .ff.

sounds great but when will build 1792 be available?

right now I am on build 1711

Oh and will it available in the windows compiled version (I could never get the compiler to work)

will it be an automatic update or a manual download?

Honestly, I don't know how automatic update works, but I believe when something major for server will be released - someone will push update.

Hello, I always get the same error when trying to extract a file.

Fastfile with name '_admin' not loaded.

Fastfile with name '_common' not loaded.

I created the following file in my mod "missing asset.csv" which is where I get the names. What can i be doing wrong :c

I still have the same error

extract vote all

extract ui_mp\scriptmenus\vote menufile

Fastfile with name 'vote' not loaded.

Fastfile with name 'ui_mp\scriptmenus\vote' not loaded.

Usage:

Server must be running in order to extract assets.

extract

ff - Name of fastfile to look into, without extension.

type - Type of asset. Must be one of:

all

menufile

localizedstring

rawfile

stringtable

Is there anyway to protect menu files within your mod?

Recently a deathrun server had their custom menu stolen by another deathrun server.

Me and a friend are working on are own deathrun mod and were wondering how we can stop something similar from happening?

we appreciate sharing code and not keeping it private. tmax actually made a menu file extractor that lets you reverse engineer menus from mods.

Well. Because all menus must be executed on client, term "stolen" is not applicable to menu stuff.

Don't you read mod tools EULA?

Isn't it a pleasure when someone interested in your mod? If they're using your code then they can't make it better than you.

Well if someone downloads your mod they will be able to rip menus

Not really when they rip your stuff and give no credit.

Was just wondering if you could make a way to stop people from extracting menus. Maybe is the menu contains a certain keyword it wont extract it, or something similar.

@sheep_wizard2 you can fully opensource your mod and present it on a website as yours. with some luck you also get contributions from others to your opensource project -> see the cod4x server. that's a way better approach than developing tons of stuff in parallel with others.
